Set-off to be delayed in Punta Arenas as Antarctica becomes unapproachable!

The weather in Antarctia has been unseasonably bad this past week, and two expeditions that were due to have flown out over the past 8 days are still grounded here in Punta Arenas. Due to high winds and unseasonable big snowfall, there has not been one flight from Punta Arenas to Antarctica during this period!

This doesn’t bode well for either my or Richard’s expeditions as we are both due to fly out on Wedneday, but this is seeming unlikely to happen now. The waiting game is about to begin, and with the similar experience I had in the North Pole, I am at least prepared for the mind games that await.

Those in the know say that the weather down there at the moment is like that of mid August, not November.... Hmmmm, is this a bad omen for what lies ahead...!

Anyway, when the going gets tough, the tough get going....!

More soon on our departure day........

  2. Hello Howard, I have just caught up with your blog, and will be following your diary everyday. So good to know that Ruth is with you....and snug in bed...a memory for both of you to cherish over the next few weeks!
Mark and I feel proud to have such valiant (but completely barmy) friends, and send you and Ruth all our most positive thoughts and wishes for your success and safety. I feel quite emotional.....thank God there isn't an East pole or a West pole for you to tackle next!! Much love Penny xxx
