We would like to let you know what we are doing with our time...computer games, Skype, Facebook, listening to music, exercise. As far as answering your questions...we will discuss them over the next few days and get back to you. We do have a question for you...What is your foot telling you? The ESL class thinks that it is saying stop and take a rest and let it get better as they are having a hard time understanding the time/supplies issue. I suppose in the grand scheme of things for everyone to be a "Net Giver,"is a good moral objective to shoot for. But I suspect there is more to it than simply adding up the pluses and minus and finding out that "more to it," isn't a waste of time. Finding out you have and need to satisfy that Spirit of adventure I believe says something about you personally and about your specific purpose as opposed to say mine.

Bob NAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1269171842571512673.post-12598862783576895562011-12-12T04:48:30.410-08:002011-12-12T04:48:30.410-08:00Hi Howard, Congratulations on your progress so far...Hi Howard, Congratulations on your progress so far, it is easy to say the words, I know, but believe me, I've seen the Antarctic terrain and know what you are dealing with. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Most of us eventually reach that stage when we ask, so what is this all about? interesting that its seems to happen around age 50. hmmm. Remember Antarctica gives generously this time of the year, but she also takes, so you take care every day and my thought are with you. I'd like to think that people who think they aren't wasting their lives and are content, have still got more to do. I don't think you can ever achieve everything because there's always something more to achieve. Your inspirational journey and the blog you share, I hope, makes people feel, "Maybe I can do this... or maybe I can push myself to achieve...?" It's wonderful that you have inspired so may kids to follow you, as other followers have noted. David and I also race each other to read your blog each night and think about our wonderful dinners at the Snow Farm in New Zealand and our past adventures. I wonder if the russian coach's accented tips were bouncing in your head as you revelled in the glide. :-), Hoping for less sastrugi and better glide for a speedy last 400 for you, and comfy feet (if that's possible). Thanks for your amazing journey and blog. ...Howard. Thanks for your amazing journey and blog. I like where you're going with the purpose of life stuff. But I want to contribute...that in the "masculine" (dualistic, scientific, abstracted) world of the last few hundred years it was possible for whole lives to be lived without people feeling that they had contributed to the world in a meaningful way. I think this is changing. I believe that with the current shift of values away from the intellect and back to the heart (away from wealth being separate from the wellbeing of people and the environment)that many are no longer satisfied going through the motions of living (performing meaningless mechanistic or intellectual tasks)and are finding themselves seeking to contribute by growing food, nurturing each other and society, reviving healing practices. This is only possible in a world in balance, where every person has a role to play and is valued for their personal/cultural gifts. I don't believe that the political/economic systems which have only valued certain types of contribution and have resulted in unemployment, disillusionment and despondency have encompassed the full spectrum of what humanity has to offer. So I agree that lives shouldn't be wasted but I would also argue that the world can be a place where it is not possible for a single person or life to be wasted, overlooked or undervalued. Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui. Wishing you a safe completion of your journey:) Christine Todd (Wanaka)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
